Classification

Specification “Classico”

“Classico” specification (i.e. classic in Italian) on labels is used for all non-sparkling DOCG and DOC wines, whose grapes originate from the most historic area of the appellation.

In the case of the denomination Chianti classico DOCG, the term “Classico” is already included in the denomination. In fact the specification can not be applied at the denomination “Chianti”.

Other territorial specifications that we will easily find on the bottle labels are:

  • the name of the sub-zone
  • the name of the vineyard
  • the “Storico” specification, only for sparkling wines, with the same meaning of the “Classico” specification
