Wolfang Amadeus Mozart put to music the opera “Don Giovanni” based on a libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, containing the famous passage:

“Pour the wine! Excellent Marzimino” (“Versa il vino! Eccellente Marzimino” in Italian)

The famous librettist was born in the province of Treviso, in Veneto, where he grew up in a territory that at the time was already  dedicated to the cultivation of Marzemino. Even today, with the same grapes, Colli di Conegliano Refrontolo Passito DOCG wine is produced.

Any other connection with the recent Trentino Marzemino DOC, produced in Trentino, should be excluded. Although Mozart has stayed there at a young age, when he was 15 years old, there is no evidence of the presence of the vine at that time.

Happy wine!
