Nebbiolo
Nebbiolo is a black grapes variety widespread in Aosta Valley, Piedmont and Lombardy. It is mainly associated with two great wines produced in the homonymous towns in the province of Cuneo, Barolo DOCG and Barbaresco DOCG.
In the province of Vercelli and Novara, where it is known as “Spanna”, it is at the base respectively of Gattinara DOCG and Ghemme DOCG.
In more recent years Nebbiolo has spread even outside of Piedmont, finding an ideal habitat in Valtellina, in the province of Sondrio. Here it is known as “Chiavennasca” and is the basis for important wines such as the Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG and the Valtellina Superiore DOCG.
