Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC is a designation of Liguria located - as the Italian name says - on the western side of the region, in the provinces of Imperia, Savona and Genoa. Established in 1989, it is composed of five typologies of wine, each one depending on a specific native vine. The best known are probably Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato DOC, produced with the white grapes of Pigato, and Riviera Ligure di Ponente Vermentino DOC, produced with white Vermentino grapes.
The orography of these places is at the limit of practicality. There are no flat areas, except those created by the hand of man, with a long, tiring and stubborn work. The vineyards, on average between 200 and 300 m above sea level (I dare say, almost overlooking the sea), are organized on terraces that are still inaccessible to the machines.
