Trentino Rebo DOC is a little known red wine (also in the land where it is produced) but with an interesting history behind it. It is in fact produced with Rebo grapes, a vine that was born from a cross between Merlot and Teroldego, operated in the middle of the last century by Rebo Rigotti of the Agricultural Research Center of S. Michele all'Adige. Today it is cultivated along the slopes of Valle dell'Adige and in the Valle dei Laghi, covering an area of about 45 hectares.
Rebo Rigotti's initial purpose was to combine the aspects of softness and body of Merlot - an internationally renowned quality vine - with the fragrance and freshness of Trentino's Marzemino (not Teroldego!). The botanist was always convinced of the positive outcome of his operation, but only recent research on DNA has shown in reality that the crossing occurred between different vines, substantially without his knowledge: that is between Merlot and Teroldego.
The designation that protects it admits that it can acquire the mention "Superiore", provided it is aged at least 22 months, but its characteristics make it mainly a ready-to-drink wine.
Profile
The color, very intense, is ruby red with purple hues. The bouquet is equally intense, with fruity notes and light spicy notes, which acquire greater definition in aged wines. The taste is dry, full-bodied, medium tannic, balanced thanks to the pleasant freshness.
Food pairing
Trentino Rebo DOC is characterized by its structure of clear Bordeaux origins but, at the same time, a baggage of scents and freshness typically from Trentino. It can be easily combined with any meal, suitable both for first courses and for various types of meat; it is also excellent with aged cheeses.
