Valdadige Terradeiforti Casetta DOC is a red wine made exclusively from Casetta grapes, a native vine that only recently has been rediscovered and saved from a possible extinction. Its name recalls the ancient military constructions - the forts - that were builded in this area since the Middle Ages, allowing a punctual control of all the flows between the Mediterranean basin and central Europe.
Its production can be defined as a niche, as it is concentrated in a small area, still a bit wild, which is located between the provinces of Trento and Verona. The produced wine has a strong personality that must be blunted with a proper aging in oak barrels for at least 10 months, 36 month with the mention Riserva.
Profile
Valdadige Terradeiforti Casetta DOC has an intense ruby red color, with garnet reflections when aged. From the bouquet clear hints of plum and morello cherry emerge; with the evolution emerge also notes of cinnamon, tobacco and musk that underline the wild origin of the grapes. The taste is frank, intense, with a marked sapidity.
