Basilicata has always been a bit crushed between two large regions, Campania and Apulia, carving out a marginal role despite the quality of its products.

The production of wine is mostly oriented to structured reds and the grapes of Aglianico del Vulture are their main contributors: proof of this we point out two well-known designations located in the north of the Province of Potenza: Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG and Aglianico del Vulture DOC.

Interesting interpretations of local grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Primitivo and Montepulciano can be found in the designations Matera DOC and Grottino di Roccanova. This ones, also wanting to find a white wine, enhance the white Malvasia di Basilicata with their own styles.

Finally, Terre dell'Alta Val d'Agri DOC is a small name with a more international profile: its reds and rosés are in fact based on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
