Sangiovese is a native blac-grapes vine and is the most cultivated in Italy. It is prevalent mainly in Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany (where it occupies 64% of the regional vineyard area), Umbria, Marche; secondarily in Lazio, Abruzzo, Campania, Molise and Apulia.

It is a very versatile grape variety, used both for cutting and for production in purity, it is well suited to both young and aging productions. In certain territories, especially in Tuscany and Umbria, it offers wines of great complexity and elegance. Its natural genetic tendency to change means that we know dozens and dozens of clones, different from each other. The quality of the wine that comes out of it, therefore, is very variable from place to place and changes with time.

Tasting

Sangiovese is suitable for the production of both young and middle aged wines. The predominant color is intense ruby red with purple hues. With aging it tends to become garnet red. The scent is medium intense and moderately complex. In young wines emerge floral notes of violet and fruity notes of cherry, marasca cherry, strawberry; the vegetal notes are pleasantly intense. Spicy notes emerge in aged wines. The taste is moderately intense and pleasant, characterized by acidity and sapidity adequately softened with maturation and aging. The wine produced is generally full-bodied and tannic.
