Vermentino is a white grape variety very common in the regions of the Tyrrhenian basin: Liguria, Tuscany and Sardinia. It is practically identical to Pigato (cultivated in Liguria) and Favorita (in Piedmont), despite being registered as separate vines.
Tasting
Vermentino is used in various designations, vinified in both still and sparkling typologies. Even maintaining its savory tendency unaltered, its expressiveness can vary from place to place: in Liguria and Tuscany wines a fresher and more elegant character emerges, while in Sardinia and Sicily its products are on average more full-bodied and have a higher alcohol content.
On average, the wine has a light straw-yellow color with greenish reflections. The scent is floral (acacia, fresh roses) and very fruity, with evidence of citrus (orange, grapefruit, lime), tropical fruit and ripe fruit. The vegetal notes, barely perceptible, recall the smell of grass and hay. With aging emerge delicate spicy notes that recall the Mediterranean aromas (sage, thyme). The taste reveals a good structure, it is mineral, persistent, fresh and savory.
